CURRENT NEWS
On March 23, 2009 The Department of Homeland Security, through the
Transportation Security Administration (TSA), will implement the
Transport Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program in New York.
To be eligible for access and work at Trans Canada's Ravenswood Power
House, Astoria Energy's Steinway Street Powerhouse and Palmark's
Brooklyn Navy Yard you will need to have the TWIC card. Currently these
are the facilities we know about. There could be more in the future.
To start the process of getting your card on your computer, go to
www.tsa.gov/twic and look for the
link to Transportation Worker Identification Credential Program. Click
on the link and look for the enrollment process on the right. Follow the
instructions. The cost of the card is $132.50 and is good for five
years. It takes 2 visits to a TWIC enrollment center to complete the
process. The visits take approximately 20 minutes each.
If you do not have a computer or you have questions you can call the
TWIC Help Desk at 1-866-DHS-TWIC (1-866-347-8942).
It is strongly urged that you to get the TWIC card as it will improve
your opportunities for employment in the future. You should also save
your receipt for possible reimbursements in the future.
